The Eternal Idol DemosThere is at least three different versions of these recordings floating around. The versions really are different, not just soundwise. I have these three versions:
- "Ray Gillen Years" bootleg CD, total playing time 36:20 These will be referred later in that order as RGY, TCRGY and EID.
Some general information: To my ears the vocals and drums sound the same on all versions. Other differences, read below. The Shining
EID and RGY are the same version. Ancient Warrior EID and RGY have the same guitar solo. TCRGY has no solo at all. RGY and TCRGY seem to have if not the same but at least similar keyboard parts. EID is different, at least the very end of it where there's no keyboards at all. EID and TCRGY fade out earlier than RGY. Hard Life To Love All have the same guitar solo and generally seem to be the same versions all over except that the EID version has a longer and slower fade out. Glory Ride EID and RGY have the same guitar solo and are probably the same version. TCRGY is a different version. For example guitar enters diffently after "Even it is suicide". No guitar solo either. Fades out about 40 seconds sooner than the others. Born To Lose All versions have the guitar solo and are probably the same version. Nightmare (only on EID and TCRGY) EID starts with guitar riff only with drums entering later. TCRGY starts with drum fill. EID has a little "Woo-oooh-yeah in the beginning when the drums enter. However, the songs are the same versions. The guitar and vocal parts in the beginning were just dropped out or added at some point. Lost Forever All three are basically the same versions. EID and RGY have the same guitar solo. TCRGY has no solo at all and fades out earlier than the others. The Eternal Idol All three are basically the same versions. TCRGY is missing the "wind effect" from the beginning and fades out about 30 seconds earlier than the others.
